Wild nights are Emmett's glory, not mine
Nov. 8th, 2002 07:21 amIt's been a running joke around here that the rare Bay Area storms tend to occur when Emmett is out of town. Emmett's off in NYC visiting Ellie, and so of course we're having a doozy of a storm! Emmett LOVES storms - he'd be so enjoying this one.
Me, while I like a bit of wildness in weather, I draw the line at threats of structural damage. The windows in our apartment were straining against the wind outside for some hours last night - that's eased for now, finally. I let my drug treatment group out early after the rickety coastside office building began shaking with the wind, and the panes rattling, and the electricity going off and on. Up the hill, at the small shopping center, the electricity *is* out, and 300,000 homes have lost power in the Bay Area. SFO stopped having flights for a while - Emmett's lucky he wasn't scheduled to travel last night - and one of the area bridges was closed for a bit too.
The cat's been scared by some of the stronger wind bursts, but is doing better now - she's sitting between the curtain and the windowpane, very entranced by the falling rain. A kitten after Emmett's own heart! And mine - she's very cuddly, slept in my arms all night. Sunday and Monday are going to be devoted to de-allergizing the house as much as possible before Emmett returns. I wanna keep her!
