Hi folks,

Last night I wrote:

A friend of mine was attacked last night by a neighbor-woman wielding a baseball bat. Didn't stop there; later that night, someone graffit-painted the house that he and his (male) partner share. Tis likely homophobically-motivated, at least in part, as the woman has made anti-gay remarks at them before.

Thanks so much for all of the support that folks gave! I spoke to the guys today and found out some more about what happened:

The guys have had run-ins with the neighbor lady before, including her making many anti-gay remarks. This time, Arnold was outside and noticed that the neighbor lady was harrassing the pregnant woman across the street, and so he went over to give the pregnant woman some support and ask the neighbor lady to stop bothering her.

Instead, the neighbor lady went back inside her house and returned with a baseball bat, and looked like she might menace the pregnant woman even further. So Arnold stayed close by the situation to help defend the pregnant woman if need be, and the neighbor lady attacked Arnold instead.

He has a cut and he hurt his back a bit trying to get the bat away from her, but is otherwise ok. He and his partner called the police, who have been called about this woman before. The police took a report but did not arrest the woman as it was considered a misdemeanor; apparently there has to be a broken bone for it to be a felony offense (!). However, she's in the process of being evicted as it happens, and hopefully she won't be nearby to bother them any more.
