So I'm in Day 2 of having a cold. Yesterday I woke with the trademark sore throat that kicks off nearly all of my colds, and by evening it had progressed to nose-runniness. That seems to be clearing, and I'm trying to remember which stage comes next - hopefully not coughing. Bleah. I did wake with the sense of having sweated some of the ickyness out, and I no longer have the urge to hydrate compulsively, so perhaps I'm even getting *better*. One may hope...

I'm glad I went locally to have that temporary crown re-cemented last week, rather than waiting for the today appointment that my own dentist offered. I sure would not have wanted to drag my ass all the way out to Berkeley feeling like this. Oh, and while I'm on the topic, may I give a warm recommendation to the staff of dentist Michael Thomas DDS in Pacifica's Eureka Square - they re-cemented my crown for free, and they were warm and witty and full of good advice. I am not quite at the point of switching dentists, since mine knows well how to work with my quirks, but if anyone is looking for a dentist in northern San Mateo county, these folks are generous and competent.

[livejournal.com profile] gadlen braved the contagion risk and came by as planned. In the evening I drove him around to see Pacifica's highlights - he's trying to decide where to live if he moves West - and then we went for sushi. I must blushingly confess that in 3 years of living here I'd never gone to the restaurant closest to my house - this is partly because there's another local sushi place that I love, and partly because my usual dinner companion ([livejournal.com profile] emmett_the_sane) hates the stuff, and partly because the restaurant doesn't look like much when you drive by it.

But my favorite place was closed Monday nights, so we tried this one - Yokoso Nippon, at 2470 Skyline Blvd in Pacifica. WOW. Ok, I have a new favorite. The decor is whimsical, with lots of homey artifacts in red and brown. The food is very inexpensive, and they seemed to bring twice as much as we even ordered. And we ordered a lot - [livejournal.com profile] gadlen suggested that we get a bunch of stuff we'd never tried before, and so we did. Lots of good vegetarian stuff - daikon salad, burdock root, wakame seaweed cooked in sake, and some of my more traditional favorites like succulent kampyo maki, smooth avocado maki, and a wonderfully crisp vegetable tempura. Lee got an udon soup, a spicy tuna dish, and some mochi with nori. All of this bounty cost just $30 - $36 after our tip. What a wonderful place - it's one that I'll definitely be going back to.
