So we drove 'em out to the far sea walls, but there were cops at one end and high tide at the cliffs.
And thus the Midnight Pacific Swim became a Midnight Pacific oohing at the stars and barking with the seals. The constellations were bright (hi, Orion!), the background stars were visible and multitudinous, and the waves lapped prettily against the rocks.
There is some talk of resuming the plan in daylight, when the beach is more accessible at lower tide.
Meanwhile, Dawn spied a giant white gorilla in a tree, and so is happy. "It's Santa Cruz," she says, "Anything can happen. Expect the unexpected!"
And so, to all, a gentle night.
