DEC: So why do people refer to "having fought a long battle with cancer" when somebody dies of it?
Me: (thinks) Maybe it's the battle between the meds and the cancer cells?
DEC: So if I am taking no meds, does that mean that I am not involved in a battle?
Me: A trial, perhaps...
DEC: I do not feel as though I am being tried.
Me: (nods) There must be some more appropriate poetic analogy...
DEC: Most of the time, I am needing to educate my doctors.
Me: A battle against the health care system, then?
DEC: It is not a battle. I give them information, and they do not do very much.
Me: Perhaps it could be best described then as a banging of one's head against a bureaucracy?
DEC: That is a great deal more like it.
Me: There we go...
