Arrived home safely from San Antonio last night. Actually managed to sleep for part of the flight... while I'm historically too jittery on planes to relax enough to sleep, there's something about stretching out across a row of seats, snuggling up with one's head in one's partner's lap, and being held in loving strong arms that makes the world just feel all right.

During the awake parts of our flight, we played with our GPS receivers, and looked at what towns we were flying over. We also smiled at the map markings all over the continent from some of our previous travels and cache finds. In the car ride back from the airport, we reminised about our five days together, remembering again the very best parts.

[livejournal.com profile] brian1789 gave a talk on Mars drilling yesterday to a few hundred students at the SPE conference in San Antonio, and I wanted to share some pictures from his talk.

Here he is on the lecture hall floor, addressing the students from within their midst. This gave his lecture a more personal touch than if he'd simply spoken to them from up on stage.

Here he is later on at the exhibit hall, where he answered questions from groups of intrigued students for about 2 hours nonstop:

More pictures, including one of him in a spacesuit... )
