Hyderabad held a wide array of treats for all of the senses, especially the eyes and tastebuds. Here are some of the edible and visible feasts that we got to sample:

This was a typical breakfast for me in Hyderabad. I enjoy this type of breakfast greatly, with its many yummy savories. The drinks include hot chai masala and sweet lime juice (note: that's juice from the sweet lime fruit, not sour lime juice that's been sweetened). The bowl to the right has a sweet rice cream porridge. On the plate, the bread is paratha, the larger bowl holds sambar soup, and the two little dishes hold chutneys that go with the upma (a fine-grained couscous dish) to the upper right of the plate. There is also cheese, a stewed tomato, and some Chinese dumplings - the hotel was catering to an international clientele. [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 was amused to be able to get churros and chocolate sauce there, as well.

Then there were the bazaars:

This was a typical sari stall, and above are some closer-up views of some of the lovely fabrics. We didn't shop at this one, though - [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 did a bunch of research on what were the best clothing stores in town (balancing good quality with reasonable prices), and lovingly devoted a fair chunk of his spare Hyderabad time to traveling to and from Afreen, a shop in the Charminar district 45 min from our hotel, so that he could choose fabrics for kurti and salwar outfits for people dear to him back home. He perused many bolts, so as to find the right colors and textures for each person, and then conveyed each set of detailed measurement specifications to the tailor, who had the new clothing ready for pickup 2 days later. (I won't post pics of the finished outfits as not all of them have been gifted yet, but they are definitely gorgeous!)
