Had a really nice time at Crafts Night tonight... My favorite part was sitting with my young housemates [livejournal.com profile] 1radicaldreamer (12) and [livejournal.com profile] 1cricketsong (9) doing beadwork all together, surrounded by cats who kept batting the bead strands as play toys :-)

I was seriously impressed at how well the girls did at beading. [livejournal.com profile] 1radicaldreamer learned the stitch I taught her quickly, and [livejournal.com profile] 1cricketsong has progressed well beyond what I've taught her and is making up designs of her own. She used some larger beads to create an impressive geometric pendant, and completed 4 projects in the time we were there! I'm so proud... :-)

Me, I completed one holiday present... it looks good, if I do say so! And Kimberly came up with an innovative idea for an earring design... ;-)

There was also the usual cheerful conversation and wonderful food... cheesy roasted potato medallions, roasted garlic cloves, teriyaki broccoli, chocolate cranberry cookies, and sugared whole cranberries. I'm so glad I went!

[livejournal.com profile] bear_left reports that our high school's class of 2007 came up with quite the clever idea for its senior mascot. He writes:

"See, each year, our high school has a bad pun for a mascot. For my class, we had Squid Vicious. '89 had Stork Naked. Other mascots in that era included Wham Bam Thank You Clam!, Otter Confusion, Raven Lunatic, and Cuff the Missing Lynx (apparently '87 couldn't decide between Cuff Lynx and The Missing Lynx).

So what did the class of '07 have? Habeus Porpoise. I'm so proud of them..."
