Flight to Brisbane
Aug. 26th, 2009 01:15 pmHi all,
Writing from on board my flight... The vegan meals that I pre-ordered were yummy, and there were interesting programs on the seat-back television. I chose one on how a relatively conservative womens' organization in Britain spearheaded an effort to legalize brothels in order to better protect the working girls, and another program which interviewed three supportive spouses of crossdressers.
I also enjoy watching the map that shows where the plane is at a given time, and I watched as we crossed the equator and international date line (managed to miss the X of the two by some miles, but came near to it). And it's always a thrill to see the names of foreign countries and tiny islands appear on the screen and think "Wow, I'm near there!"
I don't sleep well on planes, and I didn't sleep well on this one, but I did sleep - in 20-minute bursts, many of them, during the first several hours of the flight. Enough to go into today with some reasonable energy, rather than needing to request a nap in a real bed first thing.
I surprised myself by not touching my laptop or beadwork at all on the flight - even after going out of my way to purchase a spare battery and recharge it in the airport. (And parenthetically, a good way to become popular at LAX is to be in possession of a multi-outlet power strip - they have so few public outlets there). I also didn't work on any of the projects that I brought along - did some small tasks at LAX, but was too tired to concentrate for much of the flight. I did read part of a nice book that a friend wrote (waves to
noire). And I might use the last half-hour of the flight to at least glance at a printout copy of a book that I agreed to write a review for (back when I had more time on my hands, before the dual offices thing, and it's due soon).
Enjoyed Skyping with
brian1789 while I was at LAX - I figured that it was so loud in the concourse that it wouldn't be rude to do so. It was really nice to see him onscreen... He's traveling too this week, to Alabama for work.
Am looking forward to seeing my cousin and her partner. Will send this when I touch down.
