Casablanca
Feb. 7th, 2011 05:09 pmJay and I have been traveling through Morocco this week... he is here for a geology conference, following which there is a field expedition into the Sahara.
We landed in Casablanca, without our luggage, which somehow got left en route in NY. This did not deter us from as much sightseeing as we could cram into our 24 hours there. In Casablanca there is a multi-stage geocache that includes various colorful sights around town. So our first stop was the Hassan Mosque and its amazing grounds:

Above is a detail from the mosque's tower... a lovely example of the mosaic and carving work that abounds in the region.
The mosque grounds are vast and peaceful, and are a favorite place for families to while away an afternoon. Here's a little girl, among the floor tile tesselations...
