Today [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 and I found our 450th and 1000th caches respectively, accompanied by the ever-patient [livejournal.com profile] patgreene, [livejournal.com profile] echidnaboy, and [livejournal.com profile] pokedavid.

We chose a special cache... the very first cache hidden by our dear friend [livejournal.com profile] gravehearted, Goodnight Mooney, located in an old 1800s pioneer graveyard in Half Moon Bay.

We'd attempted to find it back on our 5th anniversary geocaching outing in March, but alas a bunch of poison oak had recently grown up across the trail leading to it. So we pledged ourselves to come back with hedge trimmers to tackle it another day... and today was the day. [livejournal.com profile] brian1789 worked for an hour straight to clear the stray stems from the path, making it passable again.

Finally we were able to reach the cache site! We paid our respects to the pioneers and their descendents who were buried in the hidden plots. Then Jay cleared away a few more stray vines that blocked the cache itself, and we had it in our hands.

More lovely pics herein )
