Date: 2006-06-03 12:38 am (UTC)I've thought that if I ever get another cat, I'll look into getting a Siberian like Preia, and see if that breed will cause me less trouble. Oddly, my sister's cat, who was a mountain stray, doesn't trigger my allergies like most cats do. I can actually put her on my lap and pet her. Sometimes I wonder if she isn't at least part Siberian. She looks a lot like this cat on the Siberian cat website.

Date: 2006-06-03 01:15 am (UTC)I am allergic to his saliva though, as evidenced by the time he sneezed (oh as cats only do) and a wad of cat spit landed in my eye. My eye was red and swollen for a little while until the allergy medicine took affect. (Cuddling with your kitty and it suddenly sneezes and well.. you know.)
Just a suggestion. The less fur they have to shed, or at least fur that's wavy (like Cornish Rex or Devon Rex) tends towards being good cats for us who are allergic. :)

Date: 2006-06-03 04:04 am (UTC)You gotta bathe them once in a while. Usually they say once a week, but we sometimes go 2-3 weeks until he needs it. Mostly because he doesn't like it, but he'll still stand there while you bathe him and meow his displeasure!
See, because they don't shed the oils from their skin don't go off on the hairs that is then shed. So after all that licking and oily skin.. well dish soap that cuts the grease gets it out nicely. :)
