Hi folks,

Today my supervisor and I disagreed majorly on something for the first time. She and I are generally pretty close - we talk pretty deeply about a lot of things - and so far the relationship has been one where she acts as advisor but mostly supports my choices.

Well, today she was pretty firm that I do something differently from how I was planning to do it. We talked it out at length, and I explained my reasons, but in the end she said she really hoped I'd do it the way she said to. It wasn't quite an "or else," but clearly there'd be what to talk about if I didn't.

*Sigh* If I was convinced that I was 100% right, I'd be sticking to my guns no matter what. But she's got lots more experience than I do, and (more importantly) some compelling logical arguments to support her case. Myself, I've got a better knowledge of the specific situation (as opposed to "how it looks on paper"), and the intuitive sense that my way would at the very least cause no harm. The end results of our two approaches would likely not even be so different, but the means to the end would be vastly opposite.

And what means we choose affects peoples' lives.

I attempted to do what she said, and got about halfway with it before getting stuck. So we'll need to talk again to re-evaluate things.

Sigh,
Geri
