So, I went out on the terrace with Emmett this evening to look at his really fine work on the terrace shelves. They are a pretty shade of stained wood, with a rustic feel to them. I like them.

In the process, I noticed that my plants were looking more than a bit droopy. It is hard to get into a regular watering cycle here - sometimes it is foggy and misty and I fear to overwater them; and sometimes it is sunny and hot and then I don't remember to water them enough. Either way, the morning glories and marigolds appear to be resigning in protest. I feel like a bad mom tonight. It doesn't seem fair, that my laziness results in another living thing's death - and so quickly, too. Just the other week they were fine.

I told Emmett that if we get a kitten, he'd better take charge of its feedings.

Ferns. That's what you need. I have a book about them in one of the discard piles, and assuming I can locate it, I'll bring it with.

Ferns?!?

And the ferns will serve as nutritous cat food, so she doesn't have to remember to feed the kitty?

Silly Boy.

Kitties come with a built-in reminder functin. It's standard; all models have it.

Ferns are less aggresive about making their needs met.

Got it? See, it all works out.
