walking in a kitty disneyland
Dec. 26th, 2002 10:33 pmSo we're back from visiting Emmett's parents in Sacramento for Xmas. It was a real nice time, made even better by the presence of Preia, who we decided to take along with us. We were worried about that at first, because many people had warned us that cats simply Do Not Like being taken out of their home territories. And her yowls for the first half-hour of the car ride led to us both confessing, on 101, "I am having second thoughts..."
But then she settled down, and as soon as we passed Berkeley she began to purr. Two or three hours of being held and petted wasn't so bad, she decided.
And Emmett's parents' house... oh did she love it! Presents to romp through, a tree to climb (incriminating evidence, below), shiny baubles to hold soccer practice with, and lots of kitschy little stocking toys that went shooting across the room. Emmett said she must have thought that we'd taken her to kitty disneyland.
Visiting the different branches of his family was nice too. Highlights included some bonding time with a cockatiel, who decided that I was her property and tried to fend off all others who came close; and also the peanut fudge that Emmett's sister made, which I *had* to get the recipe for. And, being welcomed by his family, who are really really good at including newcomers. Purrr...
