And the news of this week is that... in a couple of months we will have a cat!
I'm allergic to regular cats, but there is this breed called the Siberian which has less allergen in their saliva / dander than most cats do. So they are easier for asthmatic people to be around.
So we just went to look at the newest litter of Siberians near San Jose, and there was one who I fell in love with when she settled contentedly down on my shoulder and kissed me on my chin. So we have arranged for the little critter to be held for us until she is 12 weeks old, which is when they allow the kitties to leave their parents.
She is only 3 1/2 weeks old, pretty grey with a white tip on her tail and another on her paw and a bit of white on her chin too. She has adorably plaintive grey eyes, and she is the little runt of the litter, but what she doesn't have in strength she makes up for in smarts - she seems to be quicker on the uptake than her siblings. She can track faces, and is past the "freak out at every movement" stage. She loves to burrow, too. We watched her mother nurse the 6 of them, which was so breathtaking to see.
We miss her lots and plan to go and visit her soon. 8 1/2 weeks til she can come home!
