Boy, it is sure good to see the light in our baby's eyes again!

You all were right, the Preia-cat's back in loving angel mode.

5pm - not on speaking terms with us
6pm - did poke her head out to see where I was going when I went out to a meeting
9pm - came out from under the bed to see if it was me when I returned
10pm - repeated process for Emmett who went out to get us some Taco Bell
10:05pm - allowed me to pick her up and put her in my lap. Did not purr.
10:30pm - consented to lick sour cream off of nachoes that we put in front of her as we noshed and watched Lilo and Stitch (good movie btw).
Midnight - sat under the computer desk while we typed
1am - crept under the bed when we went to bed, then decided that she'd come join us at the foot of the bed. Actually purred when Emmett petted her! We've achieved purr!
?am - came up and snuggled in her usual spot between us :-)
9am - was happy to be petted in bed 'til I got up, and is still curled up with Emmett now.

Ah, relief...

Thanks very much to all of you who supported us through this process!

Geri, hoping the stitches-removal in 2 weeks won't be as traumatic

It probably won't be, you won't be leaving her there, though she might sulk because you take her back there and punish you with a cold shoulder for a few hours. We had a big calico that every time she went to the vet, especially if it involved shots or similar, would swat every person involved in the trip once then ignore you for ours so that you understood such behavior was NOT her idea of fun. It was actually kind of funny, especially considering her punishment ended with dinner that night.

It shouldn't be. I'm mildly surprised they didn't use surgical glue or dissolving stitches, though.

I'm proud of you. You did the right thing, which isn't necessarily the same as What The Cat Would Prefer, or as What You Would Prefer.

The world is full of people who "won't put their pet through surgery" or "don't want to interefere with nature" or have some other reason not to spay.

And sooner or later, usually sooner, they take a litter of cute sweet kittens to a shelter leave them there and walk away quickly, telling themselves that they'll be adopted, ignoring the fact that most shelters euthanise more animals than they rehome. Completely ignoring the fact that homes for those kittens, if they ARE procured, means death for some other cats. THAT is betrayal.

You did the right thing.
