Preia's doing a bit better... she's now accepting affection, sometimes seeking us out for cuddles, and sometimes purring when we pet her. But she's a very subdued girl still, and I don't know how much of that is post-surgery fatigue (2 days later) or how much of it is dispiritedness. She's essentially been violated, and the people closest to her allowed it to happen, and the look in her eyes reflects that. She isn't quite as shell-shocked or angry looking as before, but there's a definite sadness, loss of innocence, and loss of joy look about her. *Sigh* I really hope she continues to improve, and becomes again the bouncy free-spirited happy kitten who we have come to love.

We're giving her tons of affection and food-treats meanwhile. Don't know what else to do.

I really think what you are seeing is that she's sore and tired from surgery. She's not gonna be happy perky immediately from a surgery that opened her abdominal wall. Just be gentle with her and as she heals, I bet she perks back up.

I think there's no gentle way to caution you against anthropomorphizing your kitten too much. You can really drive yourself crazy doing that.
