So last night Emmett's friend Hallie came over, and she tried dilligently to teach Emmett and I how to play Magic. Three hours of "okay, so remind me what 4/5 means again" and "what'll happen if I attack Emmett's 6 spell-laden small monsters with my 3 kick-ass monsters" later, I could be overheard moaning, "Somebody tell me exactly why this game is considered to be addictive?"
Hallie also brought with her the news that bananas are at risk for becoming extinct, apparently due to the attack of a fungus. Having no bananas would be disconcerting, we said. "Having thousands of starving banana farmers would be even more disconcerting," she pointed out. Apparently there are plans afoot for a genetically engineered, fungus-resistant replacement, but it isn't gonna taste precisely the same. More info here.
In better news, we don't need to take Preia to the vet today. I phoned when I woke up, to ask them about the incision odor and the fact that she keeps licking at it, and they said that the odor can happen sometimes, and as long as the wound isn't bright red and hot to the touch and she doesn't bite out the stitches, she is fine. I'm relieved not to have to put her through an additional trip over there.
My task for the hour is to re-organize my to-do list. I keep a running online to-do list, which I refer to as my auxiliary brain, because it helps me remember the plethora of stuff that I'd forget otherwise. Lately the number of tasks has gotten out of control, so I am working on organizing stuff according to how soon it needs doing.
Every now and again I leave off bothering with the to-do list for a while, and then when I re-open it I just add new stuff on top of the old. I've done this, um, a few times now. Rather a few. I just scrolled down to the bottom of the to-do document, and it appears to have stuff from 1999 on it. Eep. Well, on the bright side, I'm sure lots of that can be deleted now...
