visiting family
Oct. 5th, 2002 06:31 pmWhen we last tuned in to Geri's frenzied life, we noted that:
> So, among the stresses one doesn't need when packing for
> an international trip is the sudden loss of one's birth
> certificate, 8 hours before one's flight. Amidst raging PMS.
Since then, we've discovered that *another* stress one doesn't need 6 hours before a scheduled flight is the accidental poking of one's fingernail into one's partner's eye in the dark, resulting in a hasty trip to the emergency room. Thankfully, it was just a surface scratch on a non-essential part of his eyeball, and he is feeling better, and the docs say it will heal quickly. And the folks at Seton Hospital are real nice. But man, what a morning.
I did make it to the flight in plenty of time, and Emmett stayed with me 'til near boarding time, though it is darn hard to cuddle in those airport lounge seatings with armrest dividers between each one. We managed though :-) And my flight was uneventful - I even managed to sleep after the morning's hoopla - and my seatmate turned out to also be a therapist, which made for some interesting conversation.
I visited my great aunt Sue for what is likely the last time today; she is 90, and in a nursing home, and her health is rapidly declining. She is still mostly lucid, but she is very weak. Mom and I took her outside to sit in the sun, and I picked her a purple flower which she seemed to like holding.
Tomorrow we go to the cemetery for the unveiling of my grandmother's headstone - about 20 family members and friends will attend. Lunch at a diner all together afterwards. And then I go to Ellie's house Sunday night, to leave for Canada in the morning!
