I'm having a good, low-key time in Hamilton with DEC... long walks, good food, and the usual amounts of feline adoration.

Today we took a walk along the Niagara Escarpment , a geological feature that includes the famous falls 65km to the southeast (and spans much of the Great Lakes around us).

Hereabouts, it's a lovely cliffside forested walk, with a surprising variety of flora. Here is my favorite photo from today:

And here is my favorite photo from a different section of the escarpment earlier in the week... a couple of ladybugs, en flagrante ;-)

DEC has a long history of being well-loved by Siamese cats, and she is likely his last. The reputation of her breed notwithstanding, she is incredibly cuddly and affectionate, and will follow us between rooms, often curling up in an available lap or seeking a warm spot beneath blankets. Sunbeams do in a pinch as well... ;-)

I'm not sure if that photo does justice to her delicacy, but she is sleek and feather-light (6 lbs), and she has the most slender exotic face I've ever seen on a Siamese. Here she is again, curled up with DEC and a book:

Continuing along on today's nature walk, a beautiful geometric bit of dandelion fluff:

More floral geometries in this snowflake-patterned Queen Anne's Lace:

Whereas this one just makes me think, "Seymour!"

I was hoping that DEC could tell me what kind of bug this was, but his entomology knowledge didn't extend past "It's an insect." ;-)

He did note that the spots on this right-hand deer meant that it was a young one:

DEC looking out along the escarpment:

Back down in Hamilton, he and [livejournal.com profile] absinthehearts have a beautiful front garden patch:

That gorgeous huge red flower blooms for exactly a day... a reminder to appreciate beauty in the now.

DEC appreciating beauty in the now:

A leisurely moment for me at the Saigon Soul Food cafe:

Walking back from same, a pretty assemblage of dark reds... brick, vinery, heavy curtains:

And one more:

But I think the bug in question is a moth- it's wings are folded like a moth's and not upright like a butterfly.

The Siamese cats I grew up with loved people and especially family, several of the Siamese I've met since then have been the same. I just assumed that was normal for them.

Sounds like a pretty place. I haven't been to Ontario since 1993.

Oops, just left... But I'm sure he'd love hearing from you. He's beginning chemotherapy in a few weeks, the cancer has metastasized. Sigh...
