Latest contraption

These photos won't do it full justice, but here is the latest toy that emmett_the_sane built for Branwen and Preia...



It's a set of connected platforms and tubes that tilt slowly when the cats step to either side. And it encourages their agility. They've been having great fun batting at each other through the openings in the tube, walking the "tightrope" poles between platforms, and sometimes just taking a flying leap between adjacent segments:



See? Branwen's getting bigger!

And emmett_the_sane is a whimsical genius :-)

Two of his other creations are also visible in that upper photo: The first is the cat hammock, which he's lifting out of the way so that I can photograph the new walkway. The hammock was built when Preia was a kitten, to give her a perch and to allow her to traverse the room between shelves at ceiling height. The second is the bead library, that beehivish looking grid of diamonds on the left wall, which holds my seed beads in a rainbow array. Unfortunately, the cats consider that to be one of their toys, too :-)

Emmett is indeed a genius, and can now be certified as an official cat-lover.
His membership card is in the mail.

The four cats that live here are poking me now, saying,
"Why don't you ever do anything like that for us?"
"Don't you love us?"
"Aren't we good?"
"Why do they get new toys and we can't?"

I blame Emmett for all the new scratch marks on my ankles. Humph.

I was just having a similar thought -- I'll bet Emmett could help me build a much improved version of my outdoor cat-run. I'd consider installing ceiling-level playground stuff, but I'd really want it to be portable in case I have to move at some point...

I need to go up to visit the Branwen kitty at some point. (And Emmett and Cyan, of course. *g*)

That was a consideration for me, too. This particular part of the growing cat-jungle is quite portable. The only catch is that it mounts to the top of shelves on either side of the room. Which you want anyways to allow the cats a place to jump from. :)

If my deck were configured differently, I'd install a cat run somewhat like yours. I think it's pretty darn nifty, and the girls'd love romping in the fresh air. :)

I've actually been thinking of mounting some kind of shelf above the couch in the living room anyhow, so I can place the rear-channel satellites of my surround sound system, which I've had for, oh, three years -- a test prototype I got cheaply from a friend who worked at Dolby's lab facility in the city -- but never have actually set up to properly surround anything. :-P

If Branwen is up there and not trying to get down, then she's at least "grown up" if not grown some. But I'd say it does look like she's grown.
