Here are some of my Vancouver photos...

That one is a view of Howe Sound, with its mountains reaching down in waves to the water's surface.

Photos from VanDusen Botanical Garden here...

That one above is from a pretty yellow tree at the park's entrance. I was so happy to see it, being a bit autumn-deprived down here in 'frisco bay. I like how the leaves have that tinge of brown at their borders, giving them a burnished feel. I also like how they cascade down, one branch in front of the other, to give the sense of a canopy of golden coin medallions.

And that one was taken beneath the same tree... I like the pluckiness of the little dandelion shining up from among the leaves.

That's a close-up of a white hydrangea blossom... Emmett and I share a fondness for those. He took some really good shots of the blue-and-white ones, which I hope he'll post.

Remember this flower, from the Encinitas zen meditation gardens post? Well, at the VanDusen gardens, I was able to get a close-up of the inside of it. And that's what you see above! I *love* those colors.

A gorgeously bright purple and magenta flower, with a nicely-defined pentagonal shape.

And that is a close-up of the same flower, which somehow reminds me of one of those zooming-in portals to the core of the Death Star in Star Wars. "I'm going in!"

A cheerful flaming carnelian bloom, which I've nicknamed "The Blazing Pomegranate."

More to come later.

These are incredible, thanks so much! I was trying to decide my favorite on the way down, then I was totally blown away by the last one! It's just explosive!

Thanks! Yeah, I like that one a lot! I put it at the end of the sequence so it would "go out with a bang," as it were.

It sure is pretty. Both in its natural beauty and in its architectural style.

But we like having you guys local, too!

Gorgeous!

One of my favorite flowers is a vine that's considered a pest, called bindweed. It has purple pentagonal flowers, a bit like that one, but smaller... A lot of flowers like that are members of the morning-glory family. (I know bindweed is, anyways.)

Morning glories are... glorious. The more intensely indigo, the better.

ooh!

My favorite is the first pentagonal flower (it looks like there is a light source right in the center!), but the first yellow leaves one is the most unusual in terms of composition, at least to my not-particularly-experienced eye.

Thanks! I like em both for those reasons. I like the pentagonal flower too because it stands out so crisply against its background, and its shape is so distinct.

OK, I'm in love with "The Blazing Pomengranate". I want to use it as one of my LJ pictures, please please please?????

And I have to agree with [profile] coyote3520, Canada looks better all the time. Especially if Shrub gets re-elected!

Sure! I'd be honored if you used it as an icon!

And yeah, Vancouver sure is a city to fall in love with, and if all my friends moved there, I'd sure wanna, too.

But I like having you guys near us, here!
